Anthony Gottlieb & Constantine Sandis in Conversation

We invite you to an conversation about the thought, life and time of Ludwig Wittgenstein, featuring the author of the most significant new biography of the philosopher in decades.

Anthony Gottlieb’s latest work, Ludwig Wittgenstein: Philosophy in the Age of Airplanes (2026), moves beyond the “tortured genius” trope to re-examine Wittgenstein’s formation within the specific musical and intellectual pressures of the Viennese Jewish elite.By contextualizing the transition from aeronautical engineering to the Tractatus, Gottlieb asks: how did the mechanical spirit of the early 20th century shape the most “anti-scientific” of philosophers?

Joining him is Constantine Sandis, whose recent work— Wittgenstein on Other Minds: Strangers in a Strange Land  (Anthem Press, 2025).—delves into the ethical and epistemic limits of understanding others.

It will be a hybrid meeting offered both in person and online.
